About Andrew Prynne

Andrew Prynne was a Spot On Business Planning client with the 740 Dental team for many years before he sold his 1/3 of the business in 2022. There, he provided general dental services for 35 years with a special interest in implants, digital dentistry, facial aesthetics and cosmetic orthodontics and contemporary advanced dental anaesthesia.

Now, he is a lecturer and an international trainer in Intraosseous Dental Anaesthesia. He represents the Dental Hitec Academy based in France and has lectured across Europe, USA and Asia.

“Spot On Business Planning supported me and my former partners at 740 Dental for many years. They helped me with mentoring, optimising the business, and for setting up my exit from the business. I cannot thank the team enough.”

What is Intraosseous Anaesthesia?

Local anaesthesia plays an enormous role in the management of the treatments performed and is pivotal in the relationships formed with patients. Yet, traditional methods often come with challenges—the period of modified function when speaking, eating, and drinking and the collateral numbness of soft tissues during which the anaesthetised tissues may be traumatised by biting or burning with hot liquids.

Intraosseous Anaesthesia is a technique that involves injecting a local anaesthetic directly into the cancellous bone adjacent to the tooth requiring treatment. This method allows for immediate and profound numbness of the targeted area, often without the collateral numbness associated with traditional nerve blocks.

“I cannot think of any new technique that I have introduced into my practice in the last35 years that has made such a profoundly positive change to my patient care, my own stress levels and the efficiency of my business.”

What problems does Intraosseous Anaesthesia solve for patients and dentists?

The predictable, immediate, and deeply profound nature of the anaesthesia enables increased patient comfort, efficiency, time saving, increased profitability, and significantly reduces stress levels for dentists themselves.

  • Patients' fear of injections: The precision and minimal discomfort associated with intraosseous injections can alleviate anxiety.
  • Waiting for an injection to 'work': The immediate onset of anaesthesia eliminates the delay before treatment can begin.
  • Failures of local anaesthetic: Intraosseous delivery ensures direct infiltration to the targeted area, reducing the risk of ineffective numbing.
  • Pain associated with dental treatment: By achieving more profound anaesthesia, patients experience less discomfort during procedures.
  • Numbness of the face, lips, and tongue following dental treatment: The targeted approach minimises residual numbness beyond the treated area.
