We are proud to support Wells On Wheels

Spot On Business Planning is proud to support Wells On Wheels.

Women still carry most of the world’s water. In rural regions of India women walk an average of 1-2 miles a day, carrying water on their heads. The weight over time leads to chronic neck and back pain, as well as musculoskeletal disorders leading to complications during childbirth. Women may be pregnant or carry a baby on their back in addition to their load.

Business mentor Andy McDougall from Spot On Business Planning has helped to ease the burden for 89 mothers, sisters and daughters by supporting a fantastic charity launched by Digimax Dental founder Shaz Memon.

Shaz says:

I set up Wells on Wheels to make an immediate difference to people’s lives. I know a wheel doesn’t solve a bigger problem, but I do know that a little comfort can make all the difference to the lives of people who already have a lot of hardship.
Wells on Wheels will be purchasing the wheel directly at cost of £28 per wheel including logistics. We will be responsible for distributing to the villages in need, starting with the village of Dahiwad.

Whilst wells in rural India are now more accessible than they were 20 years ago, it is still not unusual to see women carrying water in a metal pail balanced on their heads. Children, too, are tasked with walking in heat of up to 40°C to fetch water in this way – sometimes they are as young as seven years old. The Waterwheel, designed by Wello, is a large, round water drum that is fitted with handles so it can be rolled along the ground with ease. These round containers enable water collectors to roll liquid from wells rather than carry it on their heads. It can hold up to five times more water than a single bucket.
